Patio Furniture
Patio Furniture is furniture especially built for Outdoor use. Commonly called Outdoor Furniture or Garden Furniture it is the concept of strenght and durability against all types of weather that makes it special.
Patio Furniture has to have special properties to be able to stay outside during raining days, take very bright and strong sun, face big differences of temperature and in some cases face extreme nature events, such as storms or snow.
Normally you can find 4 different types of Patio Furniture ( divided by materials):
a) Wooden Furniture: Furniture made in solid wood, usually hardwood that keeps strong enough outside without getting totally damaged at the end of the 1st season of use. Inside of the hardwoods you may find different species and different qualities. Common hardwoods used to make patio furniture ( teak, keirin, yellow balau, acacia, eucalyptus, etc), usual soft woods that can only be used when using a special coating for outdoor purpose ( cedar, pine).
Inside of the Woods species that is different types of wood grades, selected by the ammount of wood that is used from the log without sapwood, that makes it less strong and without quality.
1) Grade A, no sapwood included
2) Grade B, less than 30% sapwood included
3) Grade C, more than 30% sapwood included
When using natural wood without any coating it becomes easy to identify the sapwood but when using teak oil on the top of the piece will be impossible to check the sapwood before taking out the layers of coating. Grade A furniture makes no sense to be used with oil finnishing unless for structural reasons.
b) Iron Furniture
There are several types of ranges in Iron Furniture. This furniture sometimes has the problem of being too heavy and difficult to combine the design with the weight. Does not have a very nice handfeeling but it is known for lasting properties.
c) Wicker Rattan Furniture
Wicker is now very popular for the fact that it does not require maintenance. However when evaluated as a business in the middle – long term is much more expensive than teak. Usually retails at same price as teak wood and it does not last more than 2 years running outside on the sun. There are different types of wicker rattan qualities, we will not consider the natural one because does not have enough properties to be considered outdoor furniture. Some wicker rattan have special features to resist to sun light, however it faces always the problem of getting warm with the sun light, sometimes causing burns. It is not a natural surface to be in direct contact with the body, so usually has to have a cushion to in between.
c) Resin Furniture
There are different types of Resin Outdoor Furniture, its properties make it a long lasting material, faces easly all types of weather and it is very affordable, however this furniture has normally the problem of stability, not being able to take heavy weights.
It can be a dangerous furniture since it does not give you guarantee that it will resist when in use. The machine molds limitation make its design difficult to be changed since it is usually done in a single mold form.
d) Aluminium Furniture
Aluminium Furniture is a susbtitute of iron furniture, much more expensive but at the same time much lighter. Easy to move and to carry, it is a very good alternative to person who do not like wooden furniture. Can be used with textilene, special coating.
Garden Furniture is a quite complex world, if you looking for specials we suggest you take a deal in wooden furniture, it will make your outdoor life much more confortable and in the sense of nature.
